“Grohl takes song to the extreme”

St. Vincent’s comeback single “Broken Man” will have made many of the artist’s fans happy – as will details about the new album “All Born Screaming”, which will be released on April 26th. Now Annie Clark revealed more about the composition of the lead single, which doesn’t skimp on a brutal industrial sound.

Clark says in an interview about the minimalist and at the same time powerful clip for Broken Man “NME”: “The video is the album cover come to life. It’s an exploration of brokenness, shot in a black void – a violent dance with the camera. It’s a finding and then accepting that you are absolutely on fire.”

“The beginning of the song starts off pretty slow,” says Annie Clark. “The song climbs a mountain because it just grows and grows. There are basically three drummers on the track: the first part is my programming, the second part is Mark Guiliana’s and then at the very end of the track – just when you think it can’t go any higher – Grohl absolutely comes with this one ruthless spirit and pushes the song to the extreme.”

It’s not the first time that St. Vincent and Dave Grohl have collaborated musically. Annie Clark performed some songs with the remaining band members at Nirvana’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction in 2014:

“All Born Screaming” will be St. Vincent’s seventh album and follows “Daddy’s Home” from 2021. In addition to the already known contributors Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana and Cate Le Bon, Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese from Devo and the Foo Fighters, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa from Warpaint and David Ralicke can be heard.
