Groenewegen is two bike lengths short of the mighty Philipsen

Dylan Groenewegen finished second in the eleventh stage of the Tour de France. The cyclist from Amsterdam had to beat the Belgian Jasper Philipsen in the final sprint, who already won his fourth stage this Tour.

Groenewegen, who rides for the Australian Team Jayco AlUla, was well protected by his teammates in the wet streets of Moulins for the final sprint. However, the 30-year-old sprinter had green jersey wearer Philipsen on his wheel. In the last meters, his Belgian competitor went on and on and thus seized the stage victory again.

Waiting for desired victory

This edition of the Tour de France is not going as hoped for Groenewegen. The Lion of Amsterdam did not manage to win a stage this Tour and finished in the top 3 for the first time today. Last year, Groenewegen won one stage in the French stage race. In his career, Groenewegen now has five stage victories to his name in the Tour.

The Tour de France will run until Sunday, July 23.
