Grimme Prize: Disney+ nominated three times

Three German productions from Disney+ are among the 2024 nominations.

The nominees for the Grimme Prize 2024 have been announced. A total of 64 productions and individual performances were shortlisted from more than 750 submissions in four categories. In 2024, this will include twelve productions from private television, pay TV and streaming providers.

Streaming is stronger and political formats are represented more than ever at the award

The streaming provider Disney+ is represented in the nominations this year with three German productions. “German House,” which focuses on the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trial in 1963, is included. But the Afro-German TV series “Sam, a Saxon” and the youth series “Die Drei!!!” also have the opportunity to take home a prize on April 26th.

What strikes you when you mention them is that political themes clearly dominate. In addition to the ZDF production “I am! Margot Friedländer” about the life story of Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer and “Stalingrad – Voices from Ruins” (rbb/Arte/NDR), as well as “Three Women – a War” (rbb/WDR/Arte) in the “Information and Culture” category made it onto the list.

In the “Youth” category “Hypeculture: Street Slang – How Rap Changed Germany” (Funk) and “Prison Tapes” (RTL+) in the Entertainment category have the chance to win. You can see all the nominations on the official website.
