Especially fingers are in danger when men are grilling.

Damage statistics show that almost two -thirds of the damage occurs in men when grilling. The age distribution, on the other hand, is even: damage occurs for all ages. This is described in the Pohjola Insurance Bulletin.

Risks of grilling include, for example, risk of stumbling, open fire, hot coals, splashing fat and burning metal surfaces. Carefulness is a asset.

– General caution and diligence go a long way. After burns, the most damage notifications for grilling are from falls and stumbling. Therefore, it would be important to make sure that the passage on the barbecue is unobstructed and well -enlightened and that the right barbecue equipment is in use, says Pohjola Insurance’s Personnel Insurance Director Atte Erkamo in the bulletin.

Watch out for a fire

The grill should be placed on a flat, stable surface and further away from the passage so that there is no congestion around it. Place the grill far enough from the buildings and other fire -threatening objects.

The grill is safely lit with fireplace sticks or barbecue lighter. In order to avoid the risk of flaming, the ignition fluid must first be absorbed into the coal and then gently ignite.

– The spark fluid should not be added to the already ignited barbecue carbon, as the flame may be ignited when absorbed into the bottle.

Under no circumstances should you touch your barbecue with your bare hands. For example, use long pliers and protective gloves to keep your hands away from the hot surface and flames.

The barbecue should be kept in mind all the time. Fat flowing from grilled products can flare up and raise dangerously high flames. The fat fire must not be extinguished with water, but must be suppressed, for example, with a fire blanket.

According to Erkamo, the average compensation per damage is just over € 800. The most expensive replacement is the cuts.

– After a doctor’s visit and examinations, painkillers, wounds and physiotherapy are most commonly examined after a doctor’s visit and examinations. Cuts are relatively rare in barbecue accidents, says Erkamo.
