ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a disease that degenerates on motor nerve cells. The disease usually starts one-sided, with the weakness of the other upper or lower limb. Symptoms may also begin in the area of the throat, whereby there is ambiguity and difficulty in swallowing speech. However, the Muscle Association’s website states that the disease is progressing very individually. One fifth of the patients live more than five years and 10 % after more than 10 years after becoming ill.
