Greuther Fürth beats Arminia Bielefeld: Screen premiere at Zorniger debut

Red Lantern back in Bielefeld

Alexander Zorniger celebrated a successful debut as the new coach of second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth. In the first game under the new coach, the Middle Franconians celebrated a 1-0 (1-0) victory with Arminia Bielefeld in a basement duel with a signal effect. The strong Armindo Sieb (30th minute) scored the goal for Fürth’s second win of the season in front of 9433 spectators in the game of the two Bundesliga relegated teams who were threatened with relegation again. In the table, the previous bottom of the table from Fürth not only passed Arminia, but at least temporarily left the relegation zone. In the parallel game, Magdeburg fought a late point against Heidenheim.

Under the former Leipzig and Stuttgart coach, the Fürth showed a significant increase in performance. His team acted purposefully like they hadn’t in a long time. After Zorniger’s newly promoted Sieb was stopped twice in the early stages, the 19-year-old struck after half an hour. Bielefeld was able to repeatedly fend off a powerful Fürth attack, but the hosts followed suit and Sieb scored the deserved lead.

After the break, Fürth missed the early decision and the game became more open. Despite a final offensive by the guests with a promoted goalkeeper Martin Fraisl, the Franconians brought victory over time. A curious scene caused an interruption before the break. Referee Felix Brych briefly disappeared into the catacombs because his knee needed treatment. The 47-year-old from Munich was able to continue the game.

Ito saves Magdeburg’s point against clever Heidenheimers

Tatsuya Ito saved a lucky point for 1. FC Magdeburg in injury time against 1. FC Heidenheim in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Japanese (90th + 3 minutes) used the first shot on the Heidenheim goal to win a point. So the promoted team came to a lucky draw on Friday evening with the 1: 1 (0: 1). Denis Thomalla (23rd) had previously given the guests the lead in front of 19,352 spectators in the MDCC Arena. The Ostalbstädter ranked fourth, the Elbestadt in 15th place.

After the 3:2 at Hamburger SV, FCM coach Christian Titz made no changes. Magdeburg had more than 70 percent possession of the ball, but the ripped-off guests were not impressed. The free-standing Thomalla used the fourth chance to counterattack deliberately to take the lead. Shortly before the change, Mohammed El Hankouri (45) had the chance to equalize with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, the ball went just over the bar.

After the change, Tim Kleindienst (47th) had the next good chance for the guests. After that, the FCM fans whistled because the team lacked ideas in the last third. But Ito’s first shot on goal in injury time then fitted.
