Dozens of Greenpeace activists invaded the shareholders’ meeting of JBS, the largest meat processing company in the world, this morning. That happened in the Sheraton hotel near Schiphol. The shareholders fled the room and Greenpeace occupied it for hours. The promotion has now ended.

JBS is originally a Brazilian company, but moved its headquarters to the Netherlands last year. Greenpeace accuses the company of illegal deforestation in the Amazon rainforest and greenwashing.

With the action, the NGO wanted to issue a letter threatening legal action. In this way, it is hoped to block JBS’s expansion plans in Nigeria. It is feared that these billions will lead to environmental damage and violation of human rights. “Keep your bloody business out of Africa” was written on the activists’ banners.

The action was finally ended around 2 p.m. It is not clear whether the shareholders’ meeting will still take place, JBS is not available for comment.
