The municipality of Nuenen has given the green light for the construction of the controversial distribution center on Eenind-West. The Commission issued a permit on Monday for the construction of the mega hall, despite the many objections and fierce protests from the neighborhood.
The distribution center to be built must be fourteen meters high and 300,000 square meters in size. The Mega-Hallen will be in the business park between Geldrop and Nuenen. Officially in Nuenens territory. A total of 1500 objections were submitted to the plans.
‘All carefully viewed’
According to the municipality, these so -called views have all been assessed, but the municipality of Nuenen could only give permission for the construction of the distribution center. Everything fits within the zoning plan according to the municipality.
“We carefully examined whether those views could lead to another decision on granting the permit. That is not the case: according to the applicable legislation in our country we must grant the permit,” Steltje Alderman Bertje van Stiphout.
Stopping costs a lot of money
Earlier, the municipality also indicated that it was in its stomach with the mega distribution center. Nuenen then said he was bound by agreements. Stopping the distribution center, the municipality could cost a lot of money.
Local residents have been worried for a long time. Especially in Geldrop they fear a considerable increase in freight traffic that drives through the village towards the A67. Residents are also worried about road safety. The municipality understands those worries, but also says that there would be more traffic anyway: whether there will be one large or more small companies at that location.
A lot of uncertainty
Together with the neighboring municipalities and the province, the municipality will see whether measures should be taken to improve road safety and accessibility.
It is not yet certain that the distribution center is actually coming. Objectioners can still appeal against the permit issued. A judge may then say whether the municipality of Nuenen has assessed everything correctly. Nitrogen can also throw a spanner in the works. Due to the nitrogen crisis, it is very difficult to get a permit for construction projects.
