Green housekeepers: If necessary, make adjustments in the case of relief

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The Greens in the Bundestag do not rule out the possibility that the relief for citizens will be increased again when the situation worsens. “We will keep checking the current situation over the course of the autumn and winter and, where necessary, make specific adjustments to social relief. We will not leave anyone alone,” said housekeeper Sven-Christian Kindler of the German Press Agency. “A crisis is not a time for stinginess,” he emphasized before a second meeting between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and representatives of business associations and trade unions. The traffic light coalition will finance what is necessary.

The so-called concerted action talks are about finding common solutions to combat downturn risks and inflation. Among other things, Scholz wants to encourage companies to pay their employees tax-free subsidies of up to 3,000 euros.

Many economic research institutes were expecting a recession for 2023, explained Kindler. It is therefore crucial to avoid economic structural breaks and unemployment and not to slide into a recession for ideological reasons. “We saw in the financial crisis in Europe that a dogmatic austerity policy in a recession leads to more unemployment, bankruptcies, less income and ultimately to more debt,” said Kindler. During the corona crisis, Europe drew the right conclusions and invested a lot. “It will be the same this time if the federal government continues to act together,” emphasized Kindler./tam/DP/zb
