Green Day opens the 60th Super Bowl on February 8th at Levi’s Stadium. The band from California performs before the big NFL finale.
It’s recently been official that it’s not just Bad Bunny who will be performing at this year’s Super Bowl. Green Day is also taking part in the sporting event.
“Iconic rock anthems” at the Super Bowl
On February 8, 2026, the two best teams of this year’s NFL season will fight again for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. But live music is always an issue. On January 17, 2026, the NFL officially announced that the Californian rock band Green Day would be at the event. The trio will kick off the festivities with their “most iconic rock anthems,” the NFL statement said. Fans can be excited to see exactly which songs the group will perform.
“Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
The opening ceremony will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl and honor the MVPs. It starts live before the big game at 6 p.m. on site. The broadcast in Germany begins at 12:30 a.m.
“We are thrilled to be opening Super Bowl 60 right on our doorstep,” Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement released by the NFL. Here he alludes to the venue of the game. This will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The rock trio is also native to California. The statement continued: “It is an honor for us to welcome the MVPs who shaped the game and open the evening for fans from all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s celebrate loudly!”
“Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as local heroes while honoring the NFL legends who helped shape the sport is an incredibly powerful start to Super Bowl LX,” said Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation. “We look forward to working with NBC Sports to create an unforgettable celebration for fans at the stadium and around the world at this opening ceremony.”
Performance part of a pre-game line-up
The performance of the “Basket Case” performers is part of a previously announced pre-game line-up. Before the game, Charlie Puth will also perform the American national anthem and Coco Jones will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.
