Greek track fights in exciting final to first ATP title in Pune

Tallon Greek track has won his first ATP title of his career in Indian Pune. The tennis player from Nieuw-Vennep had a hard time against the Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, but won after three sets 4-6 7-5 6-3. The 26-year-old succeeds Tim van Rijthoven, who won the last ATP final in Rosmalen last year.

Greek track faced Bonzi in the final, who defeated Amstelvener Botic van de Zandschulp in his semifinal. The first set went to the Frenchman, after Nieuw-Venneper made two double faults on his service.

In the second set, the Greek track fought to 5-5 and struck: 7-5. During the last and decisive set he got two match points and the first was a hit. With that, he took his first ATP title of his career.

“Of course I was more nervous than usual, but I think we both handled it well”, Greek track responded after the win. “We showed good tennis. I also played a bad game in the first set.” On the way to the final, Greek track defeated Jaume Munar, Marco Cecchinato, Marin Čilić (bye), Aslan Karatsev and Benjamin Bonzi.

Due to the final victory, the North Hollander also makes a big rise in the world ranking from 95 to 61. His best ranking was 44, which he achieved last year. The Greek track will participate in the Australian Open next week.
