Greece grants allowance to lower-income drivers to offset fuel prices | Inland

Greek motorists earning 30,000 euros or less will receive an allowance to compensate for the increased fuel prices. This was announced by the government in Athens on Tuesday.

The one-off allowance, which is between 30 and 50 euros, will be paid to drivers of cars and motorcycles in the coming days. The financial press in Athens estimates that approximately 3.2 million residents will benefit from the measure.

Drivers will have to apply for the allowance online. It is required that they have paid their road tax, and that their vehicles are insured and officially registered.

The first allowance applies for the months of April, May and June. The government is still looking at whether it will give additional fuel allowances later this year if prices remain high, a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport said on state radio.
