Great disappointment at Alkmaar Murmellius Gymnasium after the death of 16-year-old Dorian by accident

The Alkmaar Murmellius Gymnasium mourns the death of Dorian Bellamy, the 16-year-old boy who died last night after being hit on his bicycle in Zuidschermer the day before. Dorian was a student of the school. The school says it is “devastated” to learn of the news and describes Dorian as a “happy, sociable and talented boy”.

“It is unimaginable to us that Dorian is no longer there,” the school shares on its website. “Dorian literally and figuratively whistled through our school, was interested in the people and the world around him and was there for everyone.”

“Dorian’s musicianship, intelligence, sense of language but also his modesty were admirable”

It was nice for fellow students and teachers to have him in the classroom, according to the school. “His musicality, intelligence, sense of language but also his modesty were admirable.”

The Murmellius will ‘miss the boy immensely’. “Our thoughts are with his parents and with Caspar.”

Memorial at school

The Murmellius Gymnasium informed the students about the news this morning. A memorial will be set up in the car at the school, where students can gather to mourn.

If students prefer to process the grief at home, that is also allowed: “Some of our students will soon want to go home and we will of course allow that.”

Created by motorist

Dorian was shoveled on Wednesday evening by a motorist – a 63-year-old man from Beverwijk – at the intersection at Zuidervaart and Boekelerweg in Zuidschermer. The boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Two ambulances were called and the trauma helicopter was also called in. This morning, a police spokesperson informed NH Nieuws that the boy had died of his injuries. “We sympathize with the relatives and are conducting further investigations into how the incident could have taken place,” said the spokesperson.

The driver who was arrested after the accident has since been released, but remains a suspect.
