An unforgettable debut by Gijs Brouwer at the US Open. The tennis player from Venhuizen made his debut last night with a win, without losing a set, over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. Brouwer therefore qualified for the second round. The Grand Slam tournament is over after one round for Tallon groenpoor from Nieuw-Vennep.
The 26-year-old Brouwer survived three qualifying rounds, which means that he can now participate in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. The world number 181 made a confident impression and gave his much higher placed opponent (45th) no chance: 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4.
In the second round, Brouwer will meet Lorenzo Musetti, who is 26th seeded in New York. The Italian settled in five sets with the Belgian David Goffin.
It didn’t end well with Tallon Greek track earlier in the evening. The current number 46 in the ranking was defeated by the lower placed Federcio Coria (78th). It became 5-7, 5-7 and 3-6. Greek track was not completely fit. He had problems with his back and has just recovered from a corona infection.
