It was a huge shock to Boechi’s widow Niandy and their children. “They wanted to visit his grave,” says Tara Janssens, a good friend of the family. “There they saw how a piece of the stone has broken off.” The sea of flowers on the grave is also partly trampled and there is soot damage, making it appear that the grave has been set on fire.

A conscious action, they are sure. “This was absolutely done on purpose, there is no other way.” The police are currently investigating the case. “We have close contact. The perpetrator must still be walking around somewhere, that hurts. Whether there is a link with Boechi’s death? No idea, but we have to take everything into account.”

“The new stone may not be placed yet.”

The destruction also hit the Monuta funeral home hard. “They said this has never happened before,” says Tara. “It’s so disrespectful.”

It will probably be a while before the grave of Ruchendell Windster, as the rapper was actually called, is restored. “The new stone has now been ordered. But as long as the police investigation is still ongoing, we are not allowed to do anything with it. Terribly sad for the family.”

The Tilburg rapper was shot dead in Curaçao at the beginning of December. That most likely happened after a heated argument in the capital Willemstad.
