Grass in Coevorder Van Heutszpark is (almost) no longer mowed

Some grass meadows in the Van Heutszpark in Coevorden will be mowed less often from now on. The municipality wants to use this to create flower and herb meadows that are good for the climate. As a result, the park can look a bit haggard in the beginning.

The Van Heutszpark extends along the canal corners, just outside the city center of Coevorden. The park consists of wide lawns with here and there a row of trees, crossed with walking and cycling paths, with here and there a bush or bush. Instead of every two weeks, from now on, the landscaping service will go out every six months to update the lawns. No more tightly mowed grass, but nature taking its course. It is not about the entire park, but about three demarcated zones.

The intention is for the grass to deteriorate first, with the public gardening service mowing and removing the grass to provide more space for herb and flower growth. In the long run, a flower meadow full of colors should be created. The adjustment in the mowing policy should ensure that more plants grow, which attract insects. This also ensures cleaner air and a better climate.
