Grape picking is in full swing, and the harvest is good

The owners of the Kouterhoeve domain from Moorslede also confirm this. Their vineyard is one and a half hectares in size and has 7,000 vines. It’s all hands on deck these days. They have to pick a week earlier than expected. The good weather in September apparently made up for a lot. Linsey Debosschere: “There was a lot of disease pressure in many vineyards. But because ours is very small-scale, we were able to monitor it closely and keep it under control. So we really can’t complain in terms of yield. It certainly looks good.” and the quality of the grapes too.”

Suitable soil

We mainly know wine growing from Heuvelland, but grapes are now grown almost everywhere in the province. Kris Verbrugge: “Any type of soil is suitable for growing grapes. This includes the soil in Moorslede. Here we are on a sandy loam type. Slightly sloping. There is no standing water. Everything is perfect for growing grapes.”

Kris and Linsey started building the vineyard 5 years ago. After three harvests, they can finally bottle and sell one of their four types of wine: rosé. “We have chosen to keep the brand name of De Kouterhoeve. So domain De Kouterhoeve. And we will also mention the name of the grape variety on the label. So for the rosé it will be pinot noir rosé.”

B&B De Kouterhoeve

Kris and Linsey are hobby growers, they both have another full-time job and also run a B&B near the vineyard. Their guests will soon be the first to taste the pinot noir rosé de Kouterhoeve.
