Borgmans addresses the “young people of the future” in his letter and says that he admires the youth because they do not give up in the climate crisis. The actor also calls on everyone to do more to combat climate change. “We have to move up a few gears right away. Everyone: companies, politics, everyone.” The letter ends with a plea not to lose heart. “Let us nurture courage, patience, trust and love in the unknown world we enter. Don’t think left, don’t think right, think.”
The Grandparents for the Climate is an independent non-profit organization that is committed to passing on a liveable world to the next generations. In recent years, the movement has argued several times with the climate truants.
Since January 1, 2019, the climate grandparents have been sending an inverted New Year’s letter to their grandchildren every year. In the previous two editions, youth writers Marc De Bel and Linda Van Mieghem were allowed to write and read the letter.
