The local police of the Blankenberge/Zuienkerke zone received a call on Thursday around 11.30 am for a stabbing incident in the Oudengemse Laan in Blankenberge. A 68-year-old woman and her grandson (7 months) were found in the home. They were taken to hospital with injuries, but according to the public prosecutor’s office their injuries were not life-threatening. After the incidents involving her grandson, the woman with psychological problems allegedly tried to take her own life, but the public prosecutor’s office did not provide any further information about the contents of the file.
Attempted murder
The Bruges department of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office immediately demanded a judicial investigation led by an investigating judge. The laboratory arrived on site to conduct trace research. “The investigation into the circumstances of the incident is fully underway,” the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office reports. For the time being, the public prosecutor’s office declined to comment further.
The investigating judge in Bruges arrested the 68-year-old woman on Friday on suspicion of attempted murder. The woman will appear before the council chamber in Bruges on Tuesday, which will decide on her further arrest.
