For Hobie Verhulst, the match against RKC Waalwijk was one to forget quickly. The AZ goalkeeper made a flashy mistake in the 3-1 defeat with two goals from the Waalwijkers. “If a shot like that comes ten times in training, then I have it ten times.”

Verhulst was guilty afterwards and did not want to blame the bleak and wet autumn weather as the cause of his first mistake. “No apologies. I just have to get this ball. And if I don’t get it, I have to tap it wide.”

The 29-year-old from Amsterdam did not apologize to his fellow players afterwards. “I don’t have to do that. My teammates know that. If they make a mistake once, they don’t have to do it with me. Everyone always does their very best.”

Disappointing
AZ coach Pascal Jansen spoke after a disappointing defeat. “Within fifteen minutes we take the lead and we have control over the match. It is actually almost unbelievable that you still lose here with 3-1”, said Jansen.
