Government and Engie need more time to reach an agreement: “Consultations will continue” | Interior

The federal government – represented by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy – and Engie have held intensive consultations in recent months to ensure the extension of the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 power stations. As a reminder, this concerns the concrete implementation of the agreement in principle reached on 21 July 2022 on the extension of the two reactors for a period of ten years.

“A lot of progress has been made in recent days on a number of crucial points,” the government said in a press release on Saturday. Both parties are “delighted” about this. However, more time is needed to reach an agreement that fully satisfies both parties. The federal government and Engie have therefore decided to continue consultations in the coming days.

The aim remains to reach an agreement quickly that will extend the lifespan of Doel 4 and Tihange 3 by 10 years. This objective is shared by both the federal government and Engie.

The government reminds that the extension of Doel 4 and Tihange 3 covers the winters of 2026-2027 and beyond. Several measures and investments have already been taken to ensure security of supply until then.

LOOK. This summer, the government reached an agreement in principle with Engie on an extension of the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 nuclear power plants by 10 years. Karel Lattrez then clearly explained what that agreement exactly entails:
