The 30-year-old Götze returned to the Bundesliga after two years at PSV Eindhoven. The midfielder made his last appearance for Germany in November 2017 against France. He was no longer nominated for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“We will take a close look at who can help us in the end to achieve our big goal of getting as far as possible in the World Cup,” said Flick, referring to the squad selection for the World Cup in Qatar.
