Google Meet is now available on Apple CarPlay: those who use an iPhone can participate in meetings from the car, even on the move, but only in audio mode to avoid distractions while driving. On Android Auto the integration is not yet ready, but it is a matter of little
Participate in meetings even from behind the wheel? For a few days now it has been possible. Thanks to the integration into Apple CarPlaythe virtual “meeting room” of Google Meet it always travels together with the car, or rather inside the car. The popular application for video calls and remote meetings from the giant Google guarantees greater flexibility for those who use an iPhone and combines it with the car’s multimedia system. Curiously, although Google manages the other major smartphone operating system, namely Android, in-car meetings are not yet available for those who use a Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi phone (or any other model with the green robot’s operating system), but it’s only a matter of time.
SAFETY
—
As always when there is news involving the car that can distract the driver, restrictions are important. Google avoided preventing the use of Google Meet on Apple CarPlay only when the car is stationary, but chose a different approach: no videos at no time, not even when parked. The motorist can use the meeting app whenever he wants, even while driving, but the exchange is audio only: he can listen to what the other participants say and can intervene when he wants, but he cannot see, be seen or even use the interactive functions of the platform. In this way the eyes cannot go to the screen of the multimedia system but must necessarily stay fixed on the road. The function is activate immediately for those who own an iPhone and connect it to a compatible car using the Apple CarPlay interface. To use the platform in the car, simply connect the smartphone to the car via cable or wirelessly, as is normally done, and open the Google Meet application.
ANDROID
—
On the slope Android Auto the same possibility is not yet available, there are no official communications from Google as happened with Apple CarPlay. From the rear it filters out that it is only useful time. Some technology enthusiasts with a watchful eye have noticed and reported on the web in recent days some movements that would indicate a release of Google Meet on Android Auto, but there is nothing concrete yet. A matter of weeks, they say.
