(toskanews) – Google announced, in a paper on Natureof having created a quantum algorithm, named Quantum Echoeswhich will revolutionize the technology by bringing it ever closer to practical applications in the real world that are unthinkable for traditional devices, including super computers. Applications capable of revealing previously inaccessible information about molecules, magnets and black holes.

A tool, explained Vadim Smelyanski of Google “that runs 13 thousand times faster than any other classical algorithm of one of the fastest supercomputers in the world”.

According to the Mountain View giant, it is the first quantum algorithm “capable of verifiable quantum advantage on hardware”. That is, a measurable advantage, because its repeated calculation on any other quantum computer gives the same result. It’s the first time in history that this has happened.

The algorithm is based on the Willow chip, presented a year ago as revolutionary for the sector by Google, for its ability to reduce margins of error exponentially and speed: it made a calculation in less than 5 minutes that would take one of today’s fastest supercomputers 10 septillion (10 to the 25) years: 10 followed by 25 zeros, larger than the age of the Universe.
