Milano, 4 Nov. (askanews) – United States flags fly at half-mast at the White House in honor of the former American vice president Dick Cheney, passed away at the age of 84.
Forty-sixth Vice President of the United States, Cheney served alongside Republican President George W. Bush for two terms between 2001 and 2009and has been a polarizing Washington figure for decades. In his final years of political activity, however, Cheney, a hardline conservative, was widely ostracized by his party due to his harsh criticism of President Donald Trump, whom he called a “coward” and the greatest threat ever to the American republic.
In an ironic conclusion to a legendary political career – CNN notes – Cheney cast his last vote in the 2024 presidential election to Kamala Harrisdemonstrating how the populist Republican Party had turned against its traditional conservatism.
