A typical case of ‘Messure thanks’ in Den Bosch. That municipality held a large clean -up campaign on the Tramkade on Friday, but it was so rigorous that even the bicycle racks of the entrepreneurs, with bicycle and all, were thrown into the dirt press. “This is so absurd, you just don’t believe it,” says Leonard Hamers of the Bossche Brouwers.

He and the other entrepreneurs saw on Friday with a silly eyes how the bicycle racks they have collected over the years were taken away with a hard hand. Including cycling. “You will have started drinking a cup of tea and have secured your bike there, then you will have lost it now,” says Leonard in bewildered.

The municipality had announced a clean -up campaign earlier this week, because there were many things that do not belong there. “There was also a lot of mess, like old broken caravans, so we were happy with that,” says Leonard. “But we did not assume that they would stuck much needed items with personal property. This is really crazy.”

“It would be your bike, with child seats and all the shredder.”

The entrepreneurs had bought the bicycle racks themselves, so that visitors do not just put their bikes everywhere on the Tramkade. “I don’t know anyone who bought what, but it has value. A bicycle rack for six bicycles is already two hundred euros,” says Leonard. They called to the municipality on Friday to stop the clean -up campaign, but nobody was available at the time.

Judith Hendrickx from local party De Bossche Groenen has spoken to the entrepreneurs and is stunned. “Sometimes you think you’ve experienced everything, but apparently it can be even worse,” she says. “Normally label your bicycles, you remove them and people get the chance to pick them up. But this state of affairs is downright.”

“Every thinking person sees that there are bicycles in stables that have been purchased for this.”

Hendrickx suspects that the municipality has hired a company and has not given a clear assignment. “But actually I have no explanation for it. Every thinking person sees that there are bicycles in stalls that were purchased for that. It would have gone your bike, with child seats and all the shredder,” she sighs. “Someone has to pay for this. So this gets a tail.”

At the municipality there was nothing known about the incident on Saturday afternoon, a spokesperson said.
