The golf superstar apparently has a serious accident with his off-road vehicle. The incident brings back bad memories.
Concern for golf icon Tiger Woods: According to US media reports, the 50-year-old was involved in a car accident on Friday in Jupiter Island, Florida, in which he is said to have rolled over with his vehicle. His state of health is currently unclear; according to police, he was arrested as a result of the accident.
A breath alcohol test showed a value of zero, said John Budensiek from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida at a press conference. But Woods didn’t want to take a urine test. Investigators suspect he took “some medication or drug.”
“He seemed lethargic at the scene,” Budensiek said. “We believe this was due to the substance he was under the influence of.” According to the sheriff’s office, Woods is said to have been driving an SUV at high speed to overtake a vehicle that was trying to turn at the same time. Woods’ SUV struck the other vehicle’s trailer, tipped onto its side and skidded across the road.
Woods, who was uninjured in the accident, must remain in jail for at least eight hours from 3 p.m. (US Eastern time) and can then be released on bail, Budensiek said. He was charged with impaired driving and refusing to take a test in connection with the accident.

Woods was involved in a serious car accident in February 2021, in which he suffered serious injuries. At that time, he lost control of his SUV in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and rolled over several times. Woods had to be rescued from the wreckage of the car by rescue workers. He suffered several open comminuted fractures, was in the hospital for three weeks and then, according to his own statements, in a hospital bed at home for another three months. According to authorities, Woods was driving at 129 kilometers per hour, almost twice the speed limit.
Woods was arrested near his home in Jupiter Island in 2017. Police officers found him sleeping in his car, which was parked on a road with the engine running. Woods later explained his condition by taking various medications. In October of that year, he was sentenced to a $250 fine and 50 hours of community service, including regular testing for alcohol and drugs.
