The Japanese label Goldwin has selected the center of winter sports as the ideal location for another store of their own. The opening on December 27th is a milestone in Goldwin’s long-term, global growth strategy, which among other things aims to establish the brand more strongly in the Asian market, the company announced on Monday.
Beijing: A very promising location
The store in Beijing is the first location in China and the third location outside of Japan – in addition to Beijing, Goldwin is represented in San Francisco and in Europe with a store in Munich. The metropolitan character of Beijing stands for the rapid growth of the Chinese market, which has become increasingly important for the fashion industry in recent years – especially in the clothing sector, which combines street and sportswear.
A Japanese success story
With the brand’s deep roots in the technical outdoor sector and a spectrum of ski and activewear, as well as lifestyle looks, Goldwin is writing a company history that goes back over 70 years. What started in a tranquil textile factory in western Japan has developed over time into a label with recognition value in the premium segment, which is characterized by minimalism in design and sophistication in production.
The store concept: back to nature
Goldwin’s new flagship store is located in the Taikoo Li Sanlitun shopping center in Beijing, which is popular with residents and visitors to the city alike. The design of the shopfitting was created in collaboration with the Japanese architecture firm New Material Research Laboratory. With the motto “accumulation of knowledge and nature” and the use of rustic materials such as wood, stone and blackened steel, an ambience was created that focuses on the outdoor factor of the technically sophisticated clothing from Goldwin. In addition to the layout and the choice of furniture, Goldwin and the New Material Research Laboratory relied on factors such as acoustics, air quality and temperature that simulate nature.
