Golden competitor Suzanne Schulting does not feel safe in home country Italy | Olympics

The 31-year-old Fontana and the Italian skating federation are arguing. Fontana, who referred Suzanne Schulting to the silver on Monday, said she did not feel safe in Italy.

“To be there (at the 2026 Games) as an athlete, some things have to change. I will not put myself, my coach and my family in situations that we have been in until now,” said Fontana.

Conflict

The conflict has been going on since the short track star chose her husband Anthony Lobello as a trainer, which the national skating association did not agree with. Since then she has been training with Lobello in Hungary. “Monday’s race was proof that that choice was the right one, the best one,” said the Olympic champion after her new title.

Fontana, together with cross-country skier Stefania Belmondo, is now the best Olympic winter sportsman for Italy ever in terms of medals. Internationally, she is also the one with the most medals at the Games in her sport.
