The first gold medal in wrestling competitions in the Mediterranean Games came from Kerem Kamal. In the organization held in the city of Oran, Kerem Kamal reached the final by defeating his Egyptian opponent 7-6 in the quarter-finals, and his Croatian opponent 9-1 in the semi-finals. The national wrestler became the champion by beating his French rival Leo Tudezca 8-0 in the final match.
