Lieke Klaver ran her golden race in Apeldoorn on Friday 8 March. The Enkhuizen athlete rushed to the European title on the 400 meters. “A lot came to me. Even on my parents. They got everything and everyone messages. And when I pass my grandmother, she says: I have a superstar in the house. It’s really crazy house.”
Klaver notices that a lot has changed in her daily life for her. Her management tries to steer that in the right direction. “You are recognized more, many more people want to be photographed or a signature.”
No signature
At the FBK games in Hengelo there were many fans to ask for a signature, but she had to go. “I had a pen from a girl in my hands then, I gave it back and I didn’t even give her a signature. I felt so guilty.”
Klaver runs the World Cup Athletics in Tokyo in September. Until then, she can be admired especially in Diamond League matches abroad.
