The Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul has ended his career after 20 years in the professional area. The 37-year-old, who was under contract with Luton Town until the end of last season and was unclear since then, explained this decision on his social media channels.
Krul undoubtedly experienced the greatest moment of his career in the 2014 World Cup against Costa Rica when he was substituted by coach Louis van Gaal for Jasper Cillessen in the 119th minute and parried two attempts in penalty shooting. It was one of a total of 15 games for the Elftal.
“I truly lived my childhood dream- every game, every training and every moment of height and depth made me that I am today. I thank the clubs, coaches, teammates, my wonderful family and above all fans for your support throughout my career. I look forward to the next chapter and will always be honored for the event on the field.” he.
Krul was active in the majority of his career in England, only in the second half of 2016/17 with Ajax Amsterdam and in the second half of 2017/18 at AZ Alkmaar he played on a loan in the eredivisia. He completed most of the games for Newcastle United (185), where he also reached his highest market value of 9 million euros in 2014.
