Goal scorer Veerman rests on the couch: “The trainer knows damn well what he has in store for me”

Henk Veerman was the only goalscorer on behalf of FC Volendam in the 2-1 defeat against fellow provincial AZ. The tall striker made the connecting goal just after the break. “You actually get one real pass and it immediately flies in,” said a critical Veerman.

Veerman, who scored his second goal of the season, made his appearance at the beginning of the second half. Jonk invariably prefers Robert Mühren in the point of the attack, but Veerman is firmly convinced that the two Volendammers can also perform well together. “We have to create opportunities and we have to finish opportunities. We don’t do that enough now and so something has to happen,” said Veerman.

Wim Jonk also saw his team again make expensive mistakes that would eventually lead to new goals against. “You start the match hopeful. We get a good chance. It can go either way in the opening phase,” Jonk analyzes after the game. “We concede a goal that is not necessary. We leave it again and that costs you points every week.”
