In the championship race, Londoners have to complain about the next painful failure. One of their top strikers is out for the rest of the season.

The bad news for Arsenal FC continues. As the club confirmed on Tuesday, striker Gabriel Jesus has suffered a torn cruciate ligament. The Brazilian sustained the injury in the FA Cup game against Manchester United, which Arsenal lost 5-3 on penalties last Sunday.

“It doesn’t look good at all,” said team manager Mikel Arteta at a press conference on Tuesday morning. A few hours later, the club officially confirmed: Jesus will undergo surgery in the coming days and Arsenal will be out for months.

The 27-year-old Brazilian scored three goals in 17 Premier League games this season. There are also four goals in the EFL Cup.

With Bukayo Saka, the team still does not have another goalscorer available. The winger is suffering from a thigh injury and will not return until March at the earliest. Because of the tense personnel situation, the club is active in the transfer market, said Arteta: “It would be naive not to do that.” The focus is not only on strengthening the attack, but also on other positions.

In terms of sport, things aren’t going well for the Gunners at the moment. Five days before the cup exit against United, Arsenal had already lost the semi-final first leg of the League Cup against Newcastle United – despite having home advantage, they suffered a 2-0 defeat.

In the championship, the “Gunners” are currently second, six points behind leaders Liverpool, but have played one more game than the “Reds”.
