The Crowdfunding for “Attempt Against Violence” has ended. In order to secure the work of the contact point for those affected by physical, psychological or sexual violence in competitive sports for the current year, 60,000 euros should be raised. This goal was not achieved. Nevertheless, “Athleten Deutschland” speaks of one in a press release “Partial success”.
The interest group for competitive athletes set up the contact point almost four years ago. Since then, those affected by interpersonal violence have reported more frequently there. “Start Against Violence” provides you with initial psychological and legal advice, among other things.
No further large donations
After a sponsor withdrew, “Start Against Violence” now lacks money. According to “Athleten Deutschland”, the Lower Saxony Lotto Sport Foundation donated 30,000 euros for the continued existence of the contact point. As a result, a total of around 40,000 euros had been raised by the beginning of December. But apparently no further large donations have been received since then.
After more than four months of crowdfunding, a third of the original fundraising goal would still be missing. In December it was said that the money would provide one “short-term relief” but be “not a sustainable solution”. The fact that “starts against violence” cannot currently be permanently secured is bad news for people who have experienced physical, psychological and sexual violence in sport. More and more people affected are making their stories public because they don’t feel supported by the sports system. For them, initiatives such as “Start Against Violence” are an important opportunity to receive help.
