Goal in injury time keeps SV Hoogersmilde title chances alive

FOOTBALL – SV Hoogersmilde keeps the title chances alive after a lucky hit by defender Jop van Aken in injury time. The team draws 2-2 against leader vv IJhorst. With one game to go, Hoogersmilde is five points behind the leader.

The visitors from Overijssel dominated the field in Drenthe in the first twenty minutes, but it was Hoogersmilde who took the lead. A beautiful ball from Gijs van Aken was promoted to goal by Robin Wever: 1-0. Not long afterwards, IJhorst was able to come alongside again with a brilliant goal from Marcha Brakke, which flew into the intersection. With that, the halftime score was determined and both teams went to rest with a 1-1 draw.

While the game went up and down in the first half, we got to see a completely different picture in the second half. There were few chances and the field play was a lot worse than the first half. Still, ten minutes before the end, IJhorst seemed to win the game with a goal from Erik Wielink. With that, the victory seemed to go to Overijssel, but due to a misstep by keeper Timo Weemink, Jop van Aken still managed to work the 2-2 against the ropes.
