Leon Draisaitl (r.) in a duel with Macklin Celebrini (l.)

As of: January 30, 2026 8:54 a.m

Ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl ended his goalless streak in the NHL and led the Edmonton Oilers to a comeback victory with a gala performance.

The German international’s team defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-3 after extra time after trailing 3-0.

The Cologne player initiated the comeback with a goal at the beginning of the final third (42nd), and he set up the goals from Connor McDavid (57th) and Evan Bouchard (60th). Draisaitl contributed nine assists in the last three matches, and shortly before the Olympic Games he ended his drought of four games without scoring his own goal. In overtime, Zach Hyman scored after 66 seconds for the third win in a row, keeping the Oilers firmly on course for the play-offs.

Leon Draisaitl to the Olympics

With the victory, the Oilers are in second place in the Pacific Division, tied with the Vegas Golden Knights in first place. From February 5th, the NHL will go on a break of almost a month due to the Olympic Games. Leon Draisaitl will also be taking part in the Olympics for the first time as part of the DEB team.
