Outdoor specialist Globetrotter has unveiled a collection of discarded pieces and fabrics.

The collection was designed by Christiane Gawlik, who works in the repair shop of the Globetrotter branch in Hanover, the Hamburg retailer announced on Thursday. The trained fashion designer is familiar with working with discarded outdoor clothing thanks to her position at Globetrotter.

“The market is oversaturated and we need to reduce our carbon footprint,” Gawlik said. “Only when we make used goods attractive again do we relieve the burden on the planet and help the environment.”

For the collection, she used discarded clothing and other materials such as tents, climbing ropes and fabric advertising banners that come from the central warehouse in Ludwigslust. In the case of some pieces, defective parts such as zippers and press studs were replaced and broken areas were repaired. Other pieces that could no longer be repaired were recycled and made into new pieces. Eleven new pieces were created, which were made from around 15 to 20 old pieces. This includes a complete women’s and men’s outfit as well as two other jackets and bags.

The collection is now to be exhibited in the Berlin Globetrotter branch. Since 2020, the retailer has started offering second-hand clothing. The range has now been expanded to all locations.
