The next new addition for Borussia Mönchengladbach: The Fohlenelf doesn’t hesitate for long after the disappointing sporting season and is rapidly pushing ahead with the squad change. On Friday, the Bundesliga club announced the signing of Ukrainian international Yukhym Konoplia.
Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed right-back Yukhym Konoplia on a free transfer. The 26-year-old last played for Shakhtar Donetsk, but his contract expired. He has now signed a working paper on the Lower Rhine until the end of June 2029.
“I’m very happy to be moving to Borussia. It’s a very big club with a long history and an incredible fan base. Right now I have a lot of emotions that I can’t really explain. It will take a few days until I fully realize everything. But in any case, I’m looking forward to a great time at Borussia,” Konoplia is quoted as saying in Borussia’s official announcement about the deal.
Gladbach newcomer has “experience and leadership skills”
Sports director Rouven Schröder added: “Yukhym is a physically strong, playful and hard-working full-back. As a regular player for the Ukrainian champions, through regular international appearances and games in the Champions League, he brings a lot of experience and leadership skills.”
This is the fourth summer transfer for Borussia. Previously, Enzo Leopold (Hannover 96), David Herold (Karlsruher SC) and Daniel Batz (FSV Mainz 05) came.
The upheaval is probably far from over. “L’Équipe” recently brought 19-year-old central defender Lassana Simakha into conversation with Borussia.
The youngster currently plays for the U19 team of ESTAC Troyes and is supposed to be promoted to professional level, but since Gladbach and FC Augsburg are courting Simakha, the plan is in danger of failing, according to the newspaper.
