Gladbach squad planner expects the quality of the squad to decrease

Squad planner and chief scout Steffen Korell expects the quality of the squad at Borussia Mönchengladbach to decline.

“The big upheaval is imminent, but with significantly fewer financial opportunities than in recent years,” the 50-year-old is quoted as saying by the football magazine “11Freunde” in the upcoming issue. “We will sell without being able to replace something of equal value.”

Borussia had not made the hoped-for transfers last summer due to the corona virus. Targeted contract extensions with service providers failed.

Midfielder Denis Zakaria switched to Juventus Turin in winter. The transfer of the Swiss, whose contract with the Bundesliga club expired in the summer, is said to have brought around five million euros into the club’s coffers as a fixed share plus bonuses.

However, this corresponded to significantly less than the actual market value. National defender Matthias Ginter, on the other hand, will even leave VfL on a free transfer after the season.
