Gladbach: Separation from Farke before the end of the season is not an issue – TM community discusses it

Rumors about U23 coach Polanski

This article was first published on May 14th and has now been updated with new information.

The pros from Borussia Mönchengladbach have backed coach Daniel Farke despite the modest season record. “We are totally behind the coach. We were adjusted very well. But we didn’t implement the coach’s plan in the first half,” said national player Jonas Hofmann after the sobering 2:5 in Dortmund, in which the guests were 0:4 behind after 30 minutes. Midfielder Julian Weigl said almost exactly the same thing: “We stand behind the coach, he has adjusted us well.”

Meanwhile, rumors surfaced that Eugen Polanski, coach of Gladbach II, could take over the first team.

Update May 15, 4:39 p.m.: There will be no separation from Farke before the end of the season, manager Roland Virkus said on Monday to the “Rheinische Post“. “After a game like this you want to come to terms with your emotions. That’s why I didn’t want to say anything immediately afterwards. I was totally disappointed, the game already took me away. We want to finish the season now, also with this coach. There is no question that we will part ways with Daniel Farke in the next two weeks,” Virkus said.

After the end of the season there will be a general analysis. “We’ll sit down and analyze everything, including the coach, of course. We will draw our conclusions from the results of this analysis. That’s what it’s all about, and it’s not just about the coach, it’s about everything. That’s why I didn’t want to comment on any rumors on Saturday and Sunday,” said Virkus.

Community: With Farke-Aus “we would capitulate to the team again”

The coaching topic is also discussed in the Borussia forum on Transfermarkt, where numerous users are less understanding than Hofmann and Weigl. Gladbach fan “ExElbinsulaner” writes:

“In the meantime, coach Daniel Farke has completely lost the fans. Anemic performances without recognizable resistance, irrelevant, similar-sounding statements after the many more than modest games. There is no further development that I can see. If the coach of a traditional club with a fantastic fan culture, i.e. fans who remain connected to the club even in the bad times, has lost the fans, the proverbial alarm bells should ring for everyone in charge.”

“BMG1900AB” writes about the situation surrounding Farke: “More and more fans are turning away from the team. But he’s not to blame alone either, you finally have to clean up the bad apples in the squad. But in announcing great deeds (keyword every stone is turned over) and then extending it for life with our oldies, somehow doesn’t fit together either. The club has been taking the simplest and ‘cheapest’ route for years. This path will now probably be continued with a Polanski.”

The people of Gladbach are threatened with unrest in the coming days. All hopes of an upward trend under the direction of the football teacher who was hired last summer were not fulfilled. The rumors about the previous U23 coach and former professional Polanski, who is currently acquiring his pro license, have not been commented on by the club. Polanski finished third in the Regionalliga West in his first season as head coach. Even before Gladbach’s 2-0 win over Bochum on the previous day, manager Roland Virkus had given his coach a job guarantee: “Daniel mastered such a situation in England. He deserves the chance next season.”

Gladbach fan “Falcon77” writes: “I feel sorry for Farke overall and it wouldn’t necessarily speak for us if he’s history again. If only because we would then capitulate again to the team, which is no longer a team, as with Hütter. Who is also proven to be a good coach and who just couldn’t do anything with us. It’s definitely not a coincidence.” Farke’s contract runs until 2025 and he already proved his fighting qualities in England at Norwich City when he overcame one of the longest series of bankruptcies in Europe’s top leagues. With his commitment in Mönchengladbach, however, the demands are different than in his time in Norwich.
