The rise of Luca Sirch from 1. FC Kaiserslautern is certainly memorable: for years, the defensive player played in the regional league across the villages; he had previously played in the regional league, while many of his current colleagues were active in the youth teams of the Bundesliga clubs. At the beginning of October 2024, Lautern surprisingly gave Sirch a chance, which the 26-year-old took advantage of impressively.
As early as 2024/25, Luca Sirch quickly became a regular at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. A status that he defended in the current season: Sirch has been in the starting line-up for all of the Red Devils’ appearances so far. No wonder that the late rise is still far from having reached its peak.
Apparently, the central defender could even continue his path in the Bundesliga from the summer of 2026. “Sky” and “kicker” confirm that the Augsburg native is said to have aroused the interest of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Since Lautern only gave Sirch a two-year contract in 2024, the right-footed player is available for free after the current season and is therefore particularly interesting.
Gladbach as the ideal next step?
Gladbach as the next career step seems quite tempting, as the Fohlenelf, which is in rather a bit of a sporting crisis, is likely to face a defensive upheaval. The contracts of Laihgabe Kota Takai and Marvin Freidrich expire, Nico Elvedi and Fabio Chiarodia end in 2027, which could make a sale an issue.
Gaps that Sirch could definitely close. But the decisive factor will also be whether Borussia stay in the league. With 28 points, they are in twelfth place after 26 match days, but the gap to 16th place is only four points.
According to Sky, Sirch was already an issue in the Bundesliga in April 2025. At that time, Union Berlin, TSG Hoffenheim and FC Augsburg were said to have kept an eye on the late starter.
