A large snowball, children’s books set on fire or even the theft of a whole cupboard. Just a few examples of vandalism at Drentse Weggeefkasten and Minibiebs. Last night it was hit in the Asser Wijk Kloosterveen.

“It’s just very annoying,” says Shirley Van Poelstra, owner of the bookcases. She only heard of the scene in the morning. Around 1 am a lot of snow was thrown out of the front garden with reading books. Moments later, children’s books were stolen from the other cupboard, which were burned a little further. The police have extinguished the fire.

In the meantime she has shared contact with the police and the camera images. “We don’t leave it at that. I just hope those guys will come to report to say sorry.”

The cupboards are pretty filled again, but the damage does not lie. “Because of the wet snow, all the books have come together, we just have to throw them away. And the children’s books, that is a shame. That quickly costs 25 euros per book and they have burned a whole pile.”
