A swimming pool, school building, houses and locations for caravans. Hoogeveen investigates what the future of Bentinckspark-Noord should look like. Two entrepreneurs want to add a multifunctional sports hall to the list.
The municipality recently published a document containing ideas for the interpretation of the north side of the Bentinckspark. The plan for an indoor sports hall is notly mentioned, but not discussed extensively.
Vincent Martijn, one of the initiators, believes that it can be more attention. Because he states: there are no places in the municipality where indoor tennis, squash or padel can be played.
And according to De Hoogevener there is a demand for that, among other things due to the fast -growing sports padel. The two entrepreneurs want to build a location for the Racktet sports, with room for a gym, physiotherapy, hospitality and a childcare.
“It’s a shame that our plan does not get the attention it deserves,” says Martijn. He and his partner have often thrown a ball for a sports plaza at the municipality. They wanted to be involved in the plans for the Bentinckspark.
But that has not happened enough, Martijn thinks and he regrets that. For example, there was a meeting in the Activum on Wednesday where interested people could view the (concept) ideas of the municipality for the park. The sports hall was not mentioned.
“We are serious with the plan,” the entrepreneur explains. “The place is super central in Hoogeveen and there are already sports clubs in the area. In addition, a new school could use it and the future swimming pool is nearby.”
In Hoogeveen there are several padel courts at Racketclub De Weide. Indoor there is no play area for the sport yet. “People have to move to other places in Drenthe,” said Martijn.
The entrepreneur believes that there should be an interior in the municipality. The idea is to construct several indoor courts. Divided among the disciplines Tennis, Squash and Padel.
The initiators are not the only ones who see salvation in a place on Bentinckspark-Noord. Hoogeveen finds the land of Korfballvereniging Thrianta, which will eventually move, attractive for homes or extra caravan sites.
The municipality in particular finds the municipality interesting, because suitable places for caravans are difficult to find in the coming years. In the same area there are also ideas for the arrival of a new swimming pool and a school building for Renn4.
Martijn and his partner hope to bring their plan to the attention of politics in Hoogeveen. De Hoogevener thinks there is a waterproof plan. “The other ideas in the area may take years. Give us space and we can get started and there is something beautiful.”
Alderman Ronald Klok (VVD) says he was aware of the plan of the entrepreneurs. The idea also emerged on Wednesday evening during the walk -in meeting for residents. “Everything we hear there we take back to evaluate.”
Klok wants to emphasize that everything that happens around Bentinckspark-Noord is not yet final.
Perhaps the plan for the sports hall will be discussed again, but it cannot improve. “If everything is concrete, we offer a plan with the city council. They take the final decision.”
