FC Girona took the lead again at the end of the 17th matchday in LaLiga.
The surprise team confidently beat Deportivo Alaves 3-0 (2-0) on Monday evening and celebrated their 14th win of the season. Girona thus pushed record champions Real Madrid, who presented on Sunday, back into first place.
Girona (44 points) and Real (42) have already moved ahead, while FC Barcelona is third with 35 points.
Artem Dowbyk (23rd, 59th/foul penalty) and the Spaniard Portu (42nd) scored the goals for Girona. Coach Michel’s team will play at Betis Sevilla at the end of the year on Thursday (7:00 p.m./DAZN).
