Girlfriend almost stabbed to death: man (42) has to go to prison for four years

A man is jailed for four years for stabbing his girlfriend with a knife in their hometown of Best. The victim was hit several times in the neck and back. According to the court in Den Bosch, the 42-year-old perpetrator could have known that the woman could have died as a result. She is left with both physical and mental scars from this attempted murder.

The stabbing took place at the end of January last year in their home on Professor R. Regoutstraat. The two were still in a relationship at the time and they also lived together. That evening, the woman had heard from the husband that she had a new boyfriend and that he had to move. Then they got into an argument. After that was soothed, the woman went to sleep.

Stabbed with kitchen knife
Her then boyfriend, meanwhile, took a kitchen knife from his bedroom, sat on top of the victim, according to the court, and put the knife on her neck. Then he started stabbing. After a struggle, the woman managed to escape and flee to a neighbor through the back door. The victim had several cuts and stab wounds to her neck, back, arm and hands.

The stab wounds left her with scars on her face, but also a numb little finger and a collapsed lung. The court further determined that the woman’s life has been turned upside down after the ‘disgusting incident’.

‘Definitely attempted manslaughter’
According to the man, he did not intend to stab his ex to death and should therefore be acquitted of attempted manslaughter. Like the public prosecutor, who demanded six years, the court could not agree with this.

When determining the sentence, the court did take into account that the perpetrator expressed regret several times. He has also shown that he should no longer drink alcohol. The court still ruled that the victim must receive compensation of more than 8,500 euros.
