Ginter about the Gladbach exit and his plans for the future

There are still five Bundesliga games to go before Matthias Ginter and Borussia Mönchengladbach will part ways after five years. The national player has now explained in an interview how the break with the then sports director Max Eberl and the decision to leave the club after this time came about.

With a win in the Rheinderby against 1. FC Köln, Ginter wants to continue the strong final spurt with his Gladbachers with ten points from four games.

The central defender can look back on five positive seasons on the Lower Rhine, during which he was also in the premier class with Borussia.

“It was absolutely the right step to come here after three very good years in Dortmund. I’ve always felt very comfortable in this club and the first four years were also great in terms of sport. We really experienced a lot together during this time, a lot achieved, had great evenings on the European stage,” said the 27-year-old in an interview with “sports1“.

According to Ginter, the last few weeks and months, in which Borussia Mönchengladbach was at times only four points away from the relegation place, “wouldn’t have been easy, either for the team or for me personally”. Nevertheless, Ginter saw it as a “great experience” to play for Gladbach for five years.

Ginter is yet to present a new club

At the beginning of the year, the central defender made the final decision not to sign a new contract with Gladbach. Ginter emphasized that his decision ultimately had nothing to do with an offer that was too low from sports director Max Eberl, who has since resigned.

“The offer I received at the end of last year had nothing to do with my decision. I had made it long before that for various reasons,” said the defensive man, who had a regular place with the Fohlenelf in each of his five years.

Ginter has not had direct contact with the long-standing Borussia man since Max Eberl said goodbye.

A decision as to where Ginter will move from next summer has not yet been finally made. “Right now I’m talking a lot with my family and with other people close to me. It’s difficult to set a timeline, but I don’t think it will be too long before there’s something to announce. Whether it’s ultimately in one, two or three weeks – I have no idea,” said Ginter in the interview about his plans for the future.

With regard to Gladbach, the defense boss again promised “to give everything for the club until the end and beyond and only to speak positively about him.”
