It is no secret that Gijs Groenteman and his podcast buddy Marcel van Roosmalen are not very impressed by Rob Goossens, the TV expert from RTL Boulevard. They even embarrassed him in the summer on the talk show Marcel & Gijs. Fortunately, Rob is not resentful, because he cheerfully accepted an invitation from Gijs.
Vacuum TV studio
Rob and Gijs talk in the podcast With Greengrocer in the Cupboard about their shared fascination with the medium of television and the types who walk around there. “It’s also nice, I think, to just… on the spot having to perform, while a lot of people are watching with you in that strange, kind of vacuum-sucked world of the TV studio,” Gijs notes.
Rob agrees. “Totally agree.”
Gijs: “Yes, exactly. Okay, so we agree that the work is fun, but you still have the feeling that you are still some kind of outsider and that you are looking at these people like some kind of animals in the zoo?”
No beauty
Yes, Rob answers. “Yes, and I don’t think I’m necessarily made for the medium either. Precisely because I am special.”
Gijs: “That is only as long as it is wide, of course.”
Rob: “Yes, fair enough.”
Gijs: “Yes, especially when you are apart, or when you somehow think: huh, what a wonderful boy that is. Not exceptional beauty. I could be talking about myself now, right? He has a strange voice. But yes, he also has something. Yes, they should be there too.”
Major insult
No exceptional beauty? A strange voice? Gijs, who has undergone quite a metamorphosis himself, is just sitting here in passing to insult. The Boulevard star doesn’t have much to say: “Yes.”
Gijs: “Yes, it is fascinating.”
How long will Rob actually stay at RTL? “I am happy with what I do. At the same time: what I do ends on December 31st. And you are completely dependent on others whether it continues afterwards.”
‘You never know’
Will Peter van der Vorst kick him out if Rob is too critical of RTL? “Is that a contract you have with RTL?” asks Gijs.
