Florian Vermeersch, who won silver the past two years, rode away from his Dutch fellow escapee Frits Biesterbos in the final. At the finish, the 26-year-old rider from UAE team Emirates-XRG had a forty second lead over Biesterbos. The Slovenian former world champion Matej Mohoric rode to third place, Floris Van Tricht finished fourth.
Florian Vermeersch succeeds Mathieu van der Poel on the honors list, who was not there for his own people. The Dutchman triumphed last year in Leuven ahead of – of all people – Florian Vermeersch and Quinten Hermans. In 2022, Gianni Vermeersch won the first edition in Veneto, Italy, and a year later Matej Mohoric was the best at the same location ahead of (also then) Florian Vermeersch.
On Saturday the women’s title went to the Dutch Lorena Wiebes.
