Gianmarco Tamberi and the victory with a jump of 2.36 metres

Wasted no time, “Gimbo”. In fact, the athlete won the World Championships in Budapest with his first attempt, reaching 2.36 meters. Competing for victory was also the Qatari athlete Mutaz Essa Barshim, a friend of the blue who had shared the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo with him. At these World Championships Barshim, on the other hand, finished third with 2.33 meters. The silver medal went to 24-year-old American JuVaughn Harrison who jumped 2.36 meters as did Tamberi, but only on his second attempt.

As reported by theHANDLETamberi’s joy is uncontainable: «It’s crazy. All sacrifices pay off. In these demonstrations I know I can give my best, because there are so many sacrifices». His medal was Italy’s third in the competition which takes place in Hungary. Before him, a silver medal was awarded to Leonardo Fabbri in the shot put and a bronze medal to Antonella Palmisano in the 20 km walk.

The victory dedicated to the father, with whom he no longer speaks

Gianmarco Tamberi wanted to dedicate this gold medal to his father who coached him until last March. Then, the two decided to interrupt their professional collaboration. And, consequently, their human relationship also faded away. “I took on a lot of responsibilities. It was not easy to separate me from my father. I won a new challenge, it was a path that gives me energy. I dedicate the medal to my father, with whom I haven’t spoken for a while“, he has declared the athlete.

He then told a Sky: «My father taught me to jump. What I’m doing today is also thanks to the journey started and done for quite a while with him. Sadly, things weren’t right anymore and I needed a change».

To celebrate this latest recognition, the blue athlete dived into the pool of the three thousand hedges course with the winner of the race, the Moroccan Soufiane el Bakkali. The images of his dive tell all the accumulated tension and all the liberation of this jump that allowed him to enter the history of Italian sport.

Love for his wife Chiara

After the dip in the small tub of water, Gianmarco Tamberi is run by his wife Chiara Bontempito whom he gave a long kiss and put the newly won medal around her neck.

The two got married on 1 September 2022 in the Pesaro hills. For the day of his “yes”, the high jumper had opted for a black tuxedo by Giorgio Armani. The wife, on the other hand, had presented herself in a white dress by Atelier Emé with a lace bodice and full skirt. Many well-known names had arrived to celebrate the couple. From Marcell Jacobs to the aforementioned colleague of the high jump Mutaz Barshim. But also Philip Tortu, Baby Vio and the president of Coni Giovanni Malagò.
